No! But maybe it was Pigpen who did the least amount of flubbing?

and, hey... don't be impeaching too many of my cowboy songs, okay? And what about inflections, flubbed or otherwise? In some of those '73 MAMUs Bobby sings that he shoots the guy he never saw, or sometimes, he cracks him with a bottle in the jaw, and then he shoots two more guys... it's something like that - even I'm confused, so I'll just smoke a bowl, and then I'll shoot myself in the foot, lol. I like MAMU. Joni Mitchell did it; Newgrass Revival did it.

Lots of GD's songs have complicated lyrics, but lots of singers have that challenge.

re: lyric-flubs in cowboy songs by lots of singers

Some of these singers played the same songs, while playing in multiple bands that were "similar", at about the same time, same thing as what GD band members did. That can be particularly challenging, especially when the same songs are arranged and sung differently in each band. Then add smoking dope into the situation, and what do we have, flubbed lyrics, that's what.

Here's how Dark Hollow's chorus was sung by Vince Gill and Bluegrass Alliance in Sept 1975
So freight train blow your whistle, carry me farther on down the track...

Vince appears to flub the lyrics by morphing two lines into one, starting at the 1:25 mark:
Dark Hollow mp3
I'd rather be in some Dark Hollow, where the sun don't never shine,
then to be at home alone in some big city in a small room with you on my mind (flubbed)

here's Muleskinner band singing Dark Hollow chorus, which I think is the way most bands sang it
Then blow your whistle freight train, going farther on down the track...

Funny, someone in Muleskinner blows the "big city" Dark Hollow lyrics at the 3:30 mark, lol
1973 Muleskinner video w/ Dawg

When you listen to [older] tapes of bands "live" playing, you'd be surprised how many mistakes are made. Often, you have to listen very carefully to catch them... like I did above. And, you have to be familiar with the material. Most of these are tiny flubs. Very few are huge flubs. GD made just as many tiny flubs as any band. But they are the kings of huge flubs! That's what I was trying to say.

No, Monte B., WIMW (What I meant was) that Me & My Uncle and Mama Tried were two examples that I thought have escaped being flubbed. I would never dare to disturb your cowboy songs!

Is there a flubbed "Corrina"?

M&MU was flubbed, as was MT; BIODTL, esp so...all of those have verses in which Bob just mumbles along over at least a line or two.

I actually think the simple songs--if that was your point--suffer from it more than complex ones.

What's on my tapes from '73 are Jer's flubs being like "fuck it, I don't give a shit, I forgot" and he mostly doesn't sing anything. Bobby's flubs are like "duh, what the fuck, I'm a moron" and he cross-connects verses, mumbles them, and looks an idiot. Donna casually makes a tiny-flub in the final Toodeloo chorus as a "new material fuck-up", when she incorrectly repeats it again - and then mutes herself as Jerry correctly goes into his ending solo during the 6-9-73 show. Bobby blows Truckin' lyrics at half the shows I saw in '73 I think, or something close to that. Didn't he flub Sugar Magnolia lyrics sometimes? In comparison, Pigpen appears to be pretty professional, lol. Honestly, in '73 my Deadhead friends and I were already discussing the flubbed lyrics issues. We had the tapes back then. I cannot remember Pigpen's name ever coming up.

I was always amazed that Bobby could remember every single word of Desolation Row but regularly screwed up Truckin'.

Bobby used to keep a card with the 1st lines of Desolation Row taped to his mic stand (or so he said in '86)p: his ol'time teleprompter
